i’ll be weighing my options this week and starting to do something this weekend. i need to get the Jeep back on the road ASAP. Thanks AJ. i’ll let you know. Thanks Jeff. i’ll also let you know
luckily ARB i think makes it a bit easier because all the shims are on the outside of the bearings. going out in a few to check on sourcing a new front axle. will just throw it into the back Krissies Rav4. this ridiculous weather isn’t going to make this whole process any easier either.
checking out the 44 builds it is highly unlikely i will get to it and costing would be a bit much at this point. its one thing to do it for a leaf sprung truck but with the TJ coils and all that it ends up being a project and a half that i can afford right now. I going to have to just go with another HP30 and use the gussets i ordered to strengthen it. my challenge now is battling weather and the ARB install into the new housing. Being my DD and it looking like i might be working 45 mins from home i want to make sure everything is going to be safe.
To make it somewhat quicker, couldn’t you get a D30 with 4:10’s and just toss it under your jeep and then deal with the ARB change over at a later date? I know doing the conversion with the axle out is easier but it seems time and weather are playing against you right now…
bit of a hike though. i picked up an axle today from Smithfield Auto recycling for $200. i have some clean up work to do (remove brackets and clean off surface rust). in the next couple days i’ll have to decide whether i regear right away or just bolt it in and regear later. might do it now while i’m still unemployed and dont really need my truck vs. being under a weekend time restriction.
well the new to me 30 is about 95% stripped. i will probably end up up replacing the upper control arm bushing and checking out the inner axle seals. just need to press out the Ball Joint… and waiting on the inner C gussets to get here. I will probably do the regear while its out. it will just make life a lot easier so i if i can borrow those tools from you guys sometime this week/end i would greatly appreciate it. not sure what else i need for the regear though? new set of shims? pinion seal? this is the last time i’m doing all this so i want to make sure i get to it all. i’m also thinking about getting some steel to make a bit of a truss…?
do you need the dial indicator? i’m going skiing for wknd. i can leave it on my porch. 46 marshall circle coventry. or if ricky is helping he knows where i live. anything else you need?
