Transmission Issue - Shift Solenoid.

Ran into an Issue where my CEL is reading a code for an Issue with Shift Solenoid B.
My XJ is running pretty badly and the CEL is now even starting to flash.

So I need your help, Im going to be replacing the solenoids but the ones I have been finding are EXTREMELY expensive and I really would like to spend as little as possible.

I was told I could run a A340E in it.

I found this on Ebay for dirt cheap so Im wondering if its possible to run
This Yota Solenoid Kit in my XJ.

Fix the rough running engine first. The trans is getting confused on what gear to go in to. And a flashing CEL is very bad. Then clear all codes and drive it to see if shift solenoid really need to be changed

Is there any other code in the CEL because a shift solenoid doesn’t cause a rough run. Recheck for pending and see if you have an upper O2 or something else.

I know I need to replace my O2 sensors, just ordered them last night. But It feels like its trying to take off from third gear and tries to stall out on me everytime I start it up.

want me to swing by your house and look at it with you I have a code reader???

She lives in Florida!

I concur on the sensors. More than once I have driven around with an O2 sensor code. Ran ok for awhile but then started misbehaving badly. BTW, I would avoid cheap sensors online. OEM, NTK, or Bosch in that order.

Agreed front O2 sensor can do some crazy stuff. And yes the cheap online one cause more headache than the discount price is worth!

All my current engine running issues and prior issues are from O2 sensors. From running rough at start up and no power to dumping gas into the engine.

So I brought my XJ to the local Jeep Dealership we have down here and had them run a tranny diag.
Needless to say the answer I got was unfortunately not what I wanted to hear.
It needs a complete transmission rebuild. So According to the dealers Id be looking at 3000$+ for parts and labor. :imp: I guess Jeep really does mean Just Empty Every Pocket. Havent even taken it offroading yet either! Ugh.

Well I guess Im gonna have to start looking around for a new jeep…

find a remanned or call LKQ about a tested one and do the replacement yourself

Find a good used tranny, it’s an AW4 they normally run for ever. Don’t be afraid of a used one.

Iv got one out of a 1996 with 135k 150 .00

Oops, sorry guess it didnt send threw. But as much as I would like to buy that tranny off of you me and Phil now live in Florida so Im sure shipping that wont be too cheap! I appreciate it tho.

Found a Transmission shop here in Florida that will charge me 350$ to install a tranny if I buy my own.

And I just found one already pulled for 350$ in Tampa and it has a 3 month warranty so, ill take what I can get because right now my Jeep is running in limp mode which I was told was the cause of my tranny to go bad.

Heres to hoping all goes well.

Sounds like you just cut yourself a good deal. Hopefully it is working afterwards and you are fully functioning for quite a while.

UPDATE;

Took the XJ to a Tranny Shop.
The guy told me the dealership had no idea what they were talking about!
No major issues! Yay!

Just need my Shift Solenoids replaced and
My fluid could use a changing, needless to say
Im looking at about a 500$ job parts and labor!

Alot better than a 3000-4000$ job.

That’s why we look again and again. Good to hear you found a inexpensive fix.
