tatoo'd oil pan

just noticed when I got home today that I tattoo’d my oil pan. doesn’t appear to be all that bad, but does anyone know where the oil pickup is in base of pan. dent is about soft ball size near rear of pan at drain plug

also, any ideas on oil pan skid plate, prob will have to fab something to work along with my belly skid

Oil pickup is usually near the lowest part of the pan usually towards the front of the engine.

What engine do you have in that thing

uhm, its a 98 or 99 4.0

Will is right.
I have a 4liter pan if you need one. It has a little ding but it doesn’t interfere with any thing.
I also have an oil pump & pickup

you guys and living on the edge with no oil pan skids…

Skidrow is the purchasable one. i would mock one up after that or you can check out my Clayton skid. i would recommend 1/4" pate

You need to pull up and check. If the dent is that big, the odds are you did something to the pick up

Jay i had traced out my skidrow plate , if I find the template I will bring it saturday. AJ

You saying pull the oil pan?

yes he is

Argh. Oil pressure is still good, and not sure when I even did it. Itcould even been Friday

dont take a chance the tube could be kinked pressure could be good but volume could be down .it wroth it to pull the pan buddy.

has anybody seen Ricky oil pan look at his oil pan or I’m sure he has pictures of it

Yep, and I’ve told him the same thing. After all the work Jay did to get that thing up and running, its worth it to drop the pan and check. Better to waste a gasket and some oil then have to do a rebuild.

think im gonna go with a skid row plate…argh, this sucks. I am so tired of wrenching and cutting wrists on this thing. just got to find a new oil pan. now my question is, can I or should i do a rear main seal once the oil pan is dropped. I did notice some oil when snapping these photos, and whom wants to do this for me

didnt do a rear main on mine as i follow “if it ant broke, dont fix it.” keep in mind you may have to drop your exhaust in order to swap the pan or at least i did on mine. and dont rush it. follow the RTV instructions. i didnt and ended up having to drop everything , clean it all and do it all again.

You MAY be ok with that, as the pickup centers itself right near the X on the pan. It looks fairly straight there. BUT the tolerance between the pickup and the pain is fairly tight (about 1/4" IIRC, its been a year and a half since I checked mine before bolting up), so this may restrict some flow.

If its my engine, the pan would get dropped.

Jay, before you order the skid, you can copy mine , its a skid row & I made a patern of it last time I had it off. there is really not much to it. one ide bolts off spring perch, driver side has a anle iron bracket that bolts to bottom of motor mount & back bolts to tranny skid.

I considered fabbing AJ, but I am so sick and tired of this shit, I’d almost rather spend the dough and be done with it the day it arrives. I have some 1/4" plate left but no ambition
