Hi Guy’s and Gal’s. Just went to the salvage yard and picked up a factory front crash/skid plate for my 95 ZJ . My question is … the Jeep did not come with a front crash/skid plate and the nuts don’t have threads yet. ( they had plugs ) in the holes where the bolts go . Looking further , I noticed the nuts have no threads. I have seen them before in smaller size , but what would you recommend for a grease / lube when I start the bolt in the hole to make the threads ? I have no tap and die set . any ideas ?
Or to I use brute force in tighten the bolts all the way in to make threads ? Thanks for your help .
You have to tap threads first. A bolt will not cut threads.
