Hey All, so my daily driver JKU now has 53K miles on it and the tires are finally shot. 
I am thinking about some Goodyear Duratrac LT285/70R17, not a huge jump in size over my stock tires but its a DD with 3.73s and the newer penstar… Anyone know if I will still need a programmer to keep the Jeep from going into limp mode? Also anyone out there run these? I’m not planning to lift this jeep or wheel it, just want to get away from the stock look (famous last words i know… LOL)
Im running duratracs on my truck. Great tire for trucks. Might be a bit stiff for a jeep. Especially if they are load range E.

I used the AEV Procal to get rid of the TPMS alarm and reprogram for
larger diameter tires (29" to 35").
I don’t think you will go into limp mode changing tire diameter or losing TPMS sensors.
If you are keeping same rims with TPMS sensors and only changing tire diameter
you should only need a programmer to give the computer the correct factor for
calculation of MPH, MPG, etc off of the tone ring/ABS sensor on each wheel.
I am a big fan/believer in achieving no check engine codes with my mods,
jeepers with older jeeps don’t understand the JK and it’s 4+ computers!
You can’t ignore CELs on a JK… Might be expensive!
Why did jeep have to go and make things so complicated
Can you find out if it is a wheel spin TPMS or a in tire sensor? A wheel spin TPMS will require major reprogramming for the new size. The in tire units just need to be programmed to placement on vehicle not wheel size. The wheel spin TPMS uses a bi-lateral comparison algorithm to compare the tires against each other. If one spins differently than the others that’s when the TPMS light comes on.
ok your jeep has in wheel sensors. the only thing you have to worry about is relearning tire locations, but if your having your dealer mount tires they will take care of that. your jeep wont go in to limp mode just by changing tire size, you speedo will just be off, and ask your dealer to reset tire size to fix that problem. I work at a gm dealer and I have the ability to do that on gm cars and trucks. so I will say jeep can do it.

put a gps on you dash that shows speed and compare. my jeep is off by 5 mph. the larger tire covers more ground so the jeep thinks your do 30 when your really doing 35 mph.
Which Transfere case do you have there are “Speedo gear set” for the purpose of fixing the speedo. I will find the link for the chart for your Jeep. Crown Automotive sells the re-gear for your Speedo for about 30 - 40 listed price.

So I finally bit the bullet and got new tires a few weeks ago. Went with the Duralast 285s mentioned above and so far they are pretty good, if nothing else they look great and finally take the stock look away from my jeep. I have only had a few times where I had minor rubbing on the front air dam but other than that they are fine. have been running around 30-35 psi and the ride is fine.
No effect on acceleration with the 3.73 gearing and I think i lost about 1-2mpg at most since moving over. Road noise is not much louder than stock, they are a lot wider than the stock 32" tires but not too much taller and great for a daily driver.
