Anybody do this on their YJ. Just trying to figure out how many seals I need. Rustys makes a kit with (1) seals & a plate. Do I only need the seal inside the diff near the carrier or do I need to install any seals in the CAD compartment, i found articles indicating both.
If i only need the seal in the diff is ir work buying some sort of a seal for the end of the axle to keep dirt/water out.
I assume your going to use a 1 piece XJ shaft on the passenger side to eliminate the 2 piece CAD shaft, you install a new seal in the passenger side. you can see on the 1 piece shaft were the seal rides. I made a block off plate & just bought a seal … then I installed a set the caps they sell to keep the crap out of the ends of the axle tubes. if you do some research online you can get the part # of the seal. I think I used NAPA SEAL PART # 11800, it was 3 yrs ago so I am not a 100% sure . I do know tha when we did it there was no ring & pinion in the axle.
I do have the XJ shaft and I can see where the machined end is near the diff. The rustys kit is only $15 so I picked it up. Ill get some axle tube seals and get it done.
