What: Big River Earth Day Cleanup
When: Saturday April 21st, 2018 from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm
Where: Park-n-Ride off Exit 6a of I-95 in West Greenwich, RI
For the 10th year in a row Ocean State Jeepsters will be partnering with the West Greenwich Conservation Commission and the RI chapter of the New England Mountain Bike Association to host an Earth Day cleanup on Saturday April 21st, 2018 at the Big River management area in West Greenwich, RI. Trucks or Trailers may come in more handy then a Jeep. I walk Ninja and Shadow back there regularly and would highly recommend bringing a bug repellent made for ticks. Bags and gloves will be provided.
Immediately following the cleanup lunch will be provided at the nearby Mishnock Barn. A cash bar will also be available.
The following video from a previous year’s clean-up was produced by our friend Peter from the RI chapter of the New England Mountain Bike Association and provides a good idea of what this event is about:
By tradition, OSJ has made a cash donation to help offset the cost of the cleanup (t-shirts, supplies, lunch). Our goal this year is to donate a minimum of $300. Reaching our goal of $300 should be a piece of cake. A motion is currently posted under the members lounge for a club donation.
tried to donate, says unable to process… Not sure If it’s me or the system, but I used the same info as in the past. Can you check and see if its working ? ANyone else having this issue?
8AM is pre-gathering at West Greenwich Park & Ride. Event is from 8:30AM-12 Noon with brief reception to follow at the Tavern on the Hill on Route 3 in West Greenwich. Reception is one hour at the most.
Went to the West Greenwich Conservation Commission Meeting yesterday. Is anyone able to meet Sunday atv3pm to hike the clean up spots and help make a plan for clean up?
Ricky and I scouted a few areas yesterday with the group. It looks like we will be in a location that will need a few jeeps to pull out tires. We need to get a few people to help clean up a path to the trash before the actual day. It’ll just be knocking a few dead branches off pine trees and possibly pulling some downed trees out of the way. Very minimal, but expect scratches on your jeeps the day of the clean up although that shouldn’t be a problem for most
As a best practice we try to avoid dealing with cash. We prefer credit cards and checks so that there is never any question where the money came from and where it went. Cash also requires extra trip to the bank. That said, if cash is the only way then so be it.
