AW4 trans issue??

Positive steps today…

The wiring diagram, the wiring write up I have and the FSM all state that Pin 3 on the TCA (trans control assy) connector powers solenoid A in the trans. and pin 2 powers solenoid B. I am not sure why but the connector going to the trans is using pin 2 to power solenoid A and 3 to power B… No I did not have anything to do with the wiring to the trans… Anyway, if I power pin 2 manually with the TCM dissconnected I have power like it should have!!! Big step from last night… Anyway I switched wires 2 and 3 but still no power when connected to the TCM… Thinking that maybe I killed the TCM or other wires are not right on this connector??? Will call Jeeps U tomorrow to pick up another TCM to try… At least I feel better that the trans is going into gear and moving. Pin 4 was correct as I was able to stall the engine when I powered this one (converter lockup) so that just leaves pins 1, 5, 6 and 7 to validate are correct.

I wonder if someone along the way swapped out the solenoids in the trans and had to reverse the wiring in the trans harness?? Might pull the sheathing off tomorrow or sat to look… scratching my head on this one…

glad to hear your moving forward Glenn

or they swapped solenoids and got it backwards putting the wires on them.

Good to see you are making progress.

Its up an running…well driving! Apparently there must be different wiring schematics for different year?? I went to Jeeps Unlimited to pick up another TPM and it works perfectly even with the two solenoids backwards from my wiring diagram… The wires are correct just what they do was different…anyway its working…

It was weird driving the jeep again after not driving it for two weeks…and even weirder not shifting… I wont mention how many times I went to depress the non existing clutch petal…

Thanks everyone for the help!!!

glen check this out this guy put one in and goes thru it pretty good…stu-offroad.com/engine/aw-4/aw-4-1.htm i hope it helps

Thanks Tad… Thats actually the site I used to generate my wiring diagram. Lots of good write ups on his site…
