Hi…I’m new to jeep ownership but I want to get some larger wheels and join you guys on some trail rides. I have the stock jk sport wheeles 17 inch rims I think. I want to go larger but cant afford a lift right now…any suggest on size/type would be great. I will be mostly on the street but I want to join you guys on trail rides…if you let me join that is
thanks
What are the numbers on the tire? For example 255/75/17.
Wheel what came stock till you can do a lift. Stock jk’s can come play.
ill check in the morning…thanks
ya, i wheeled stock tires for a while i just invested in skids first. my theory was that tires and lift will get you there but skids will make sure you get home in one piece.
I agree with Derek I wheel a stock xj and skids is on top of my future additions
I ran two different tires on my JK prior to lifting it. I started with a set of 245 75 16 Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armors (great all around tire IMO) Recent however, I ran 285 75 17 (just shy of 33") on my JK without a lift. They are stuffed under the factory fenders and it will cut down on movement for articulation but they didn’t rub. I would say split the difference between the 245s and the 285s though if you aren’t going to do a lift yet.
I ran my jeep through areas up at the Situate Reservoir (thank you RI DEM Hunting Lottery) with my Silent Armors that my brother in a full size Tahoe with 33s got stuck. You don’t need much more in the way of size on the tire, like others said, better to invest in skids first.
I wheel a stock XJ on 255-75/25. You will be fine with stock for now.
