quuestion about building upper control arms for tj

I have a question about the size and wall thickness of DOM I should use to make a set of upper adjustable control arms for our tj. will 1.5 od with 1/4 be strong enough or do i need to go bigger/heavier?

I have upper and lower long arms made out of it the lowers do have a small bow in them but im not easy on the jeep but it has held up really well so far

Yes, 1.5 with .25 wall is more than enough for uppers. Just make sure that ends are available for that size tube.

Cool I can get everything I need at ballisticfab so I’ll be making my own. What do you think about making them adjustable on both ends? That’s what I’m planning to do.

It will make fine tuning pinion angle a lot easier.

thats the idea cause were doing the sye conversion and will need to adjust pinion angle.

ya, thats good for uppers but i would go with a little more beef for the lowers when you do them

Lowers should be 2" x 1/4" DOM.

Adjustable both ends greatly simplifies the adjustment process if you use RH and LH threads. They do tend to loosen up. I normally tack weld one of the jam nuts to solve that problem.

1.5 .120 wall is what I used

Thanks we order a bunch of stuff last night lol! Got new tires and wheel tube fenders. I’ll be ordering what is needed to build the control arms from ballistic next week along with the sye from tom woods.
