Saturday, January 30, 2010 1-4 p.m. @ Rhode Island School of Design, Providence
Here’s a fun way for your company or organization to help the Food Bank! Channel your inner Jasper Johns – or Martha Stewart – at a Drop In & Decorate® cookies-for-donation event offered in conjunction with RISD Dining and Catering to benefit the Rhode Island Community Food Bank’s Kids Cafe program. Popular RISD cooking instructor and food blogger Lydia Walshin founded the local nonprofit organization Drop In & Decorate, which has donated more than 12,000 hand-decorated sugar cookies to food pantries, domestic violence
shelters, and programs serving families in need in more than 30 states and Canada. She will teach several simple techniques for “painting” cookies with flair, using squeeze bottles of colored icing to create edible art. The cookies will be donated to 500 low-income Rhode Island school children to brighten their Valentine’s Day. No experience necessary.
All materials generously donated by RISD Dining and Catering. We’ll be upstairs at “The Met”, RISD’s main dining hall (wheelchair accessible); “drop in" any time between 1 and 4 pm.
Fee: $5.00 per person, includes cookie decorating instruction plus cookies and recipes to take home.
Children must be accompanied by an adult aged 18 or over; adults and children must register separately. Every cookie decorator is eligible to win a special door prize: a baker’s dozen cookie cutters, donated by Ann Clark Ltd. of Vermont!
