So as most of you know i own a 2000 Jeep Cherokee Sport. Not sure whats going on with it but lately after the big drive to FL(1300miles), my XJ has been giving me issues. Cant really explain it but heres what it does…
Pulling out of the driveway in reverse and shift it into drive, As soon as I hit the accelerator, it has no go, doesnt want to go past 2RPMs, and thats with my foot to the floor and takes a minute before it will actually catch speed.
Next example at a Stop Light and I go to hit the gas from a complete stop once the light changes, it has no get up and go until a minute or 2 later even with foot to the floor…
Anybody have any ideas?
The cat to the muffler is brand new so I dont think its my Cat, i do need both O2 sensors but its been like that for the past year or so that ive owned it and theres been no issue…
Is it no go and sputtering for a few minutes after start? If so replace the sensors the upper one is messing with your mode switching when you warm up. Till the sensors are fixed let the XJ run till it stumbles and levels out and you won’t have as much trouble driving. Otherwise run a check engine light on your XJ just the free service from any parts store. Get the codes and post them and one of us can tell you the general area to look for more issues.
Definitely replace the O2 sensors. I drove around for a while with bad sensors but eventually the engine started behaving erratically (not unlike what you describe). The upstream is the most important sensor.

It stated that I needed both o2 sensors, had an Evap leak and I was missfiring.
The misfiring was taken care of before we left so that code was cleared.
But Ill go ahead and get it checked again just to see if anything has changed.
