Aloha

Hey a bunch of people I don’t know! The names John but everyone calls me Pieman. Recently fell into some fun money and I’ve gotten the thumbs up from the wifey to get my dream toy. Now that leads me here. I’m in need of some advice. The thought was a YJ that has been driven mostly on the road and jack her up. Looking to do some light/med crawling until I get the hang of it. So, What should I be looking at?

welcome to the forum Pieman

i would guess you’ll want to drive it around town and wheel it some times on the weekends? YJ’s are nice, good platform. but just like every other Jeep on the northest, look for rust on the frame. if you are willing to fix it, you can get a real good deal. if you would rather a turn key rig, i would buy one from the midwest to west coast.

Exactly. Looks like it’s time to start looking. Thanks for the tip.

Welcome to the forum.

So a yj would be the recommended weekend warrior while still being able to be driven on the daily commute from time to time vehicle?

And welcome to the best low speed thrill ride money can pay for

TJ’s are a little nicer of a ride with nicer options inside. but the same thing. check the frame mainly at the back hump in the frame, where the trans skid bolts to the frame and where the control arms connect. TJ’s will be a bit more expensive so it all depends on what you want to spend and how much work you want to put into it.

welcome

Well, us JK’ers would say otherwise… They are pretty good right out of the park.
Whatever you decide, will be great. Its fun… EXPENSIVE no matter which way you go, but definitely FUN!
Welcome to the forum. Hope to see you around.
